Fitting Guide
Whether you buy designer eyewear on-line or in a brick-and-mortar shop, you’ll want to spend some time deciding on the correct shape of frame for your face. Your natural coloring can also help you determine whether you should choose dark, bold colored eyewear frames or maybe a lighter, more understated frame. Choosing eyewear frames is easy if you remember that sunglass and eyeglass frames should be proportional to the size of your face: smaller eyeglass frames and sunglasses are best for smaller faces, while larger eyeglass frames and sunglasses look better on larger faces. These tips are not rules, but they can assist you in choosing the best frame for every face.
Oval Face
Any style works for the oval shape. Try the latest looks, such as wrap-arounds or shields. Square frames with slightly rounded edges and higher temples look fabulous on an oval face.
Round Face
Look for frames equal to or slightly wider than the broadest part of the face. To make the face appear longer and thinner, minimize curves and add definition with soft rectangular or double-brow styles. To create a longer profile, try frames with higher temples. Sunglasses with brow bars also pull the eye upward, making the face appear longer.
Diamond-shaped Face
To soften the angles, try oval-shaped frames. Softly curved square frames will also work well, but they should be no wider than the top of the cheekbones
Square Face
Soft, curvy styles will reduce the angles of this face and give more definition. Try cat-eye styles, classic ovals, or round frames.
Long Face
Widen and shorten the face with frame styles that are thinner than the widest part of the face. Try round or square shapes, or frames with short horizontal lines but long vertical lines. Decorative or contrasting temple pieces will also make the face look wider.
Triangular Face
Soften the lower portion of the face by accenting the eye area with cat-eye that angle outward at the top corner. Try metal or rimless frames.
Pale Complexions
Try lightweight frames with a touch of color, such as a rose or amber. Tortoiseshell frames look great on persons with fair complexions (avoid darker versions) but clear, blue or green tinged frames may drain color from cheeks.
Dark Complexions
Dark complexions look stunning in silver, gold or clear frames. Avoid black, which can be too heavy.
